Karen In Edinburgh, Scotland - My Love Affair With Scotland

Oh I love Scotland! I love it fiercely! It's a destination that brings me memories of endless joy no matter where I go. I love this place.

My first travel outside of UK was to Edinburgh in Scotland. I traveled with a couple of my girlfriends and we stayed in a beautiful and cozy b&b. The owners were a beautiful older couple who welcomed us in their place and had set a really nice bedroom for all four of us. The place made me feel like I was living in a small cottage in the forest during the medieval times. Comforting and warm and cozy.

Scotland might be small, but there are a lot of things to do, places to see and visit while you are there. Here are the things I did and the places I visited during my trip to Scotland.

It should come to no surprise that, for a country so highly commended for its beauty, Scotland has a seemingly endless list of unique places to visit and see. It is a home to a wealth of beautiful mountains and coastal areas.

Visiting Edinburgh Castle

Edinburgh castle is the most visited tourist attraction in Scotland. It can get crowded with tourists especially in the summer months just like when I went there in the month of July2015. This castle sits upon Castle Rock, the end result of a volcano that erupted here over a millennia ago. The Crown Jewels is one of the main attractions to see at the Edinburgh Castle. It is one of the three objects used during the crowning of every Scottish monarch (crown, sword and scepter). Unfortunately, I was not able to take pictures because it was not allowed and guards were strict to implement this rule while tourist go around and admire this jewel.

Urquhart Castle

For those who are interested in Scottish history, the ruins of Urquhart Castle is a must-do. After the castle was blown up in the 17th century, local people used the stones to build their houses and farms. The visitor center will show you the castle's more than 100 years of amazing history.

Visit a whisky distillery

I love Scotland and everything Scottish but I am not a whiskey drinker. I am not a drinker at all. But for those of you who love to drink, visiting a whiskey distillery in Scotland is a must do. Scotland is well-known for having frankly ridiculous warehouses, packed with the best whiskey in the world.

Enjoying the streets&houses of Edinburgh

Edinburgh looks like a fairy tale. It makes me feel like I've stepped back into time where kings and queens and princes and princesses lived in big castles and courtyards. I love its natural beauty. Scotland is a major canvass of natural beauty. Especially when you visit the Scottish highlands. I love the people. Scots are so loving, warm and friendly. They are incredible warm and welcoming people. And the accent is just out of this world!

Visiting Loch Ness

The history of Loch Ness has always caught attention among tourists that come to visit Scotland. Of course, Loch Ness is famous for its connection with the legend of the Loch Ness monster. The Nessie legend as we know it today goes back to the1930's. The headline " strange spectacle in Loch Nes" in the local paper captured the wild imagination of of would-be monster hunters worldwide .

Scotland is an amazing place. Despite only having 9% of the UK's population, this place makes up more than a third of the total landmass. That is a lot of places to see, cultures to experience and food to eat!

In all of my travels, I will never forget the experience I had when I visited Scotland and if given another chance, I would still want to go back to this beautiful place.
