Celebrating My 36th! Why Your Birthday Matters

I celebrated my 36th birthday as my first birthday being a married woman. The first time to actually celebrate it with my husband and the love of my life. This year has been extra special. A month before my birthday month I started receiving gifts in the mail from my husband. ( i'm not complaining ) Every week I would get a present delivered to the house and I always found my self looking forward to each week.

Why do we celebrate birthdays? I'm sure birthdays are the most looked forward occasion for every one. As adults, I think we really get wrapped up in work and our everyday responsibilities, life and getting by. We have families, work, school, friends, duties and financial pressures among a million other things on our plates. So, more often than not, celebrating our birthdays is a bit too much. We're either too tired, not in the mood or don't want to make a big deal out of it or we just hate getting older so why celebrate at all?

But here's the thing.

I know you want to celebrate.

I know you want a proper party.

I know you want to be the center of the universe.

I know you want a cake. With birthday candles.Presents. Hugs. Kisses.

Think about it, it's your birthday!

You have all the right to celebrate and enjoy the day you were born.

The day where the world was made richer and more beautiful because of your presence.

If that's not reason enough, I don't know what is!

So, celebrating my 36th birthday, I am thankful because I am surrounded by people who will celebrate with me. Who care about me. Who see me. Who love me. The love that I receive specially from my husband is reason enough for me to be thankful and celebrate myself.

I woke up the morning of my birthday as the sun's rays were getting through our sheer bedroom window curtains. I rolled over the bed and noticed that my dear husband was not there. I got up and went to the kitchen thinking that he was up making breakfast but he was not. The car was not in the garage either. Half an hour later, he came home with a bouquet of beautiful flowers and some breakfast. He said, he figured he'd save us some time and do me a favor of not making breakfast on my birthday. He had a lot planned for the day, I figured. An hour later we picked grandma up and we were on our way to Madison. My husband took me out shopping and then we headed to his mom's house. I kept asking him where we were going but he just kept changing the subject. So we got to his mom's house and everyone was there. His Dad Tony and his girlfriend Kelly, his mom and his sister Sarah and me and my grandma. He planned a surprise birthday party and got me a really nice ice cream cake and every body sang me the happy birthday song. Gave well wishes and and their greeting cards and presents. It was a simple but memorable moment.

Then we went to The Dells where my husband took me to Mt. Olympus theme park. We rode the Zeus roller coaster and it was a blast! After the rides, we went to the water park and spent the rest of the day swimming in the indoor pools. I had a wonderful time. I felt like a kid again. And I liked it.

So here's what I thought. Why can't I celebrate my birth month instead of just a birthday! So I came up with stuff that I thought I'd like to try and accomplish for this month. I hope this inspires you to get that celebratory spirit back and get you in the mood to celebrate your birthday too!
