Going Back To My First Love- Writing

Writer's picture: Karen LewisKaren Lewis

So I am starting again with baby steps. I am going back to my first love- writing. It's always been a passion for me. It fuels me. It's what drives me. Just like the blossoms on the trees returning every spring, so do we return to our passion over and over again. Consciously and unconsciously. It's like a magnet, drawing us back to it. It's pull is irresistible.

I have been exposed to writing since I was in grade school and that's when I discovered my love for writing. My second grade teacher picked me to join an inter school contest for school paper article writing. She asked me to write a news article about a current event that was happening in school that time and I did. She obviously thought I could do it and she registered me to join the contest. And that was the start of everything. Ever since then, I have been a part of my school paper's editorial staff up until high school. I was always sent to attend and join news conferences and compete with other students from different schools nationwide.

After high school, I took up nursing in college and everything just got so busy for me. The only writing I did was blog posts here and there and freelance writing for friends who ask me to write articles for them. I would also keep a journal with me where I write down anything and everything under the sun that inspires me. In between jobs and life, I never really gave serious time to writing although I always thought that one day I would sit down and start my own personal blog.

And that time is probably now. I am going back to my first love. I could not resist it any more. That's what passion is. We either listen to it and take action now or it will keep nagging us. That is what happened to me. I let time go by and now I just had to listen to it. Listen to that voice inside of me begging me to pay attention. Your passion needs you just as a child, kitten, puppy or garden needs your attention to help it grow.

So now, I am in my room sitting by my what I like to call 'work desk' in front of my laptop with a hot cup of tea and racking my brains off because I am just exploding with creative juices! I just have a huge head of ideas that I want to write about that I don't even know where to begin. So I needed to calm my self down and take the excitement down a notch, hence the cup of tea, (wink!)

It's been a month now that I have been working on this personal blog site. Nothing too professional like those big time bloggers (though that is a goal) but this baby is just a personal blog that I can use as an avenue to share my thoughts and my passion for writing and share it with family and friends and hopefully to everyone. I am enjoying writing about so many things that interest me and even my personal thoughts and views about certain issues. So my baby is called karenandhersweetescapes. I use this awesome free blogsite called wixsite.com since I do not have my own domain yet. This is giving me a good practice for when I finally decide to have my own domain and website. But for now, this is my baby and I am excited and proud to share it with you.

I welcome you to explore the blog site and read my posts. I hope you enjoy reading them as I enjoyed writing them!

XOXO,

Karen
