She Thrifts- The treasures you find when thrifting
I love to shop. I guess every other woman would agree to that! It's my cardio! tehee! Though I have had my shares of buying high end and high street, I think there is pure joy in thrifting. I have started visiting charity shoppes way back when I was in London. My friends introduced me to it and I found it amusing and of course practical because you find good stuff some even are high end brands but you only pay a fraction of the cost than if you get it in the high street. I found treasures! and when I say treasures, items that are unique and good but won't burn my pockets!
So when I moved to the US, I was surprised that there are a lot of thrift stores that people actually patronize. I think that thrift store shopping makes you feel smart...in a way. And who doesn't appreciate feeling smart sometime? Often, I find high end brands of clothing and shoes when I go shop at thrift stores and which appears to have only been worn once or twice by the owner. What would have cost you $200 in a fancy store, you got for a lousy $20!!! How about that!
You are not just saving money, but you are helping poor people who are only being paid pennies for working jobs that manufacture brand new shiny things and endure inhuman conditions in a poorly ventilated and more often than not, unsafe factories in underdeveloped countries. This to me, I think is a good thing. You are being part of the solution instead of being part of the problem. You do not perpetuate an industry that is incredibly harmful to people and the earth.
Thrift store shopping can also positively help and impact the lives of people who are employed by these stores as most of these stores employ people with disabilities so spending your money there supports a worthy cause.
If you are environmentally conscious, as I feel we all should be at this day and age, thrift store shopping actually helps the environment by lessening the amount of stuff thrown in landfills. You can kill two birds at the same time too. You can donate the stuff that you don't need and want and at the same time shop and look around for things for wanted stuff instead. This cycle I think, helps the environment.
Thrift store shopping is fun!! You will never know what you find and when you do, I assure you that you will have a big grin on your face. Plus you feel satisfied and smart! You saved an ample amount of money which you can actually use for other more important things or activities that you want to do.
So get your thrift store shopping groove on and enjoy!!!
