Embracing HYGEE In My Life This Winter
HYGEE is a Danish belief in indulging in coziness, comfort and togetherness-something that all of us want and try to achieve. The Scandinavian concept lies on the key belief that Hygee is all about creating light. Which I think is especially important especially in the winter months when there's limited sunlight.
The perfect way of doing this is through lighting candles which is n ideal way to create a powerful and calm atmosphere and at the same time radiating warmth. I am a candle lover and I have always used scented candles for as long as I can remember and I have quite a collection of scented candles that I like to burn. I find that it instantly calms and creates a positive energy and allowing you to focus on things. You definitely can't have too many candles in the Hygee lifestyle, especially the gorgeous festive smelling ones.
Hygee is also about togetherness. Making time for family and friends. Stepping away from our daily activities and making sure we spend quality time with the people that matters most to us.
Digital detox is also one of the key elements of practicing the Hygee lifestyle. For me, reading is my go-to choice of activity to remove myself from technology. A few hours in my cozy pajamas and a hot cup of tea with a good book in hand is definitely a good idea.
A cup of hot tea is also an essential for me on cold chilly days in the house and this is also encouraged in Hygee. Any tea, coffee or hot chocolate is ideal for creating a warm ambiance. Whether you are drinking some to follow the Danish indulgence in tea or just a burst of warmth in the cold winter days, this is an encouraging step in embracing hygee.
Cozy clothing like jumpers, pullovers, sweaters and scarves as well as sleep robes are an important aspect of Hygee in the winter. You want to feel comfortable and warm and snug as much as possible and wearing your favorite jumper or wrapping up in a cozy blanket scarves is one one of the ways to achieve this.
Although Hygee is mostly associated with the home, it can be achieved anywhere and what better way to achieve this than with nature. Hygee is all about taking in your surroundings and enjoying the present. It is being one with the seasons and appreciating nature by brief walks in the woods or in the park. Breathing in the coolness of the fresh air outside and embracing the environment. I tend to embrace the outdoors when walking by taking pictures. And when you're paying attention you really start to notice how beautiful it can be.
And to be able to fully embrace Hygee in your life, you have to be mindful and pay attention to the present, appreciating each moment for what it is.
XOXO,
Karen
