How To Find Balance Between Work And Play

" Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving." Albert Einstein

Our jobs should compliment our lifestyles and not completely take them over. Before you commit to another overtime shift, think again. Yes, money is important. We all have budgets to keep up and bills to pay, but why do we do this to ourselves? Our twenty-something years seems to revolve around goal setting, wanting to finish school, survive college, writing and applying for jobs, starting new careers and endeavors. With all those years dedicated to education and career, it seems there is very little room for play.

The answer is simple. Our careers shouldn't take priority over hanging out with friends, spending quality time with family, catching up with relatives, travelling and other interests.

Here are some tips to find balance between work and play:

1. Schedule 'me-time'- scheduling time for yourself is absolutely essential if you find that you are working for more than needed. Schedule time each day to do things that you enjoy like reading, see friends, shop or just chill out. Go for a mani-pedi. Treat your self for a day in the spa.

2. Don't bring your work home- It is best practice to leave your work at work. Don't bring all the stress at work to your home. Your home should be a safe haven or space when you can enjoy your family and time for yourself. Focus on your work at work and focus on your life on your free time- time away from work.

3. Use your 'shower time'- This may be the only naturally built-in 'me-time' during the day. Take advantage of this. Pamper yourself with your favorite aromatherapy in the shower or bath bombs that you love to use. Treat each shower like a spa getaway and enjoy each time.

4. Prioritize holidays and vacation time- Utilize your allotted vacation time rather than feeling pressured by your employer or the culture at your workplace.

5. Make plans with the people in your life- Whether it's for a quick lunch out or a long weekend holiday, it is always good to be spending quality time with the important people in your life. My family is all over the world, if I may say so myself, so we coordinate our vacations and holidays so that each matches our availability. It is always a happy feeling to be going on holidays and vacations with our families and relatives.

There are so many ways to make use of vacation time. Whether it's a staycation, travelling or catching up with stuff that you love to do. Me, personally, I will never let a vacation opportunity to pass. I love to travel and whether it's a weekender holiday or long-haul, I am always excited and looking forward to it.

XOXO,

Karen
