Are You Broken
We all have these questions some time in our lives. Why does God allow suffering? Is God just? Does God rule the world with true justice? Why do bad things happen to good people?
As someone who is currently going through a divorce, I will admit that I have asked these questions over and over again. When we go through bad things, human nature comes in and makes us question the bad. It makes us inquisitive and naturally look for someone or something to blame.
Me: Hey, God?
God: Hello...
Me: I'm falling apart. Can you put me back together again?
God: I would rather not.
Me: Why not?
God: Because you are not a puzzle.
Me: What about all the pieces of my life that are slowly falling down onto the ground?
God: Let them stay there for a while. They fell to the ground for a reason. Take some time and decide if you want any of those pieces back.
Me: You don't uderstand! I'm breaking down!
God: No- you don't understand. You are breaking through. What you are feeling are just growing pains. You are shedding the things in your life and the people that are holding you back. You aren't falling apart. You are falling into place. Relax. Take some deep breaths and allow those things you don't need anymore to fall off you. Quit holding on to pieces that don't fit you anymore.
Me: Once I start doing that, what will be left of me?
God: Only the very best pieces of you.
Me: I'm scared of changing.
God: You are not changing! You are becoming!
Me: Becoming who?
God: Who I created you to be! A person of life and love, of charity and hope, of courage and joy, of mercy and compassion!
I have made you for more than the shallow pieces you have made to adorn yourself with that you cling to with so much greed and fear. Let those things fall off of you. I love you! Don't change! Become! Become who I made you to be.
Me: There goes another piece!
God: Let it be.
Me: So....I'm not broken?
God: Of course not! But you are breaking like the dawn! It's a new day! Become!
God is always writing a new chapetr in our life. Our life story is being written by an author who already knows how the story will end.
Do we know how it will end?
Of course, not. We are living that story and we can't see into the future. While we can do everything we can to invest, change, grow, and learn to become what we believe is our better self, many things go into the next chapter.
Will everything be perfect from this point forward? Of course not! Will everything work out? I hope so. Will it be difficult? Probably. Will it be worth it? DEFINITELY!
XOXO,
Karen
