Long Flight Survival Tips: Tricks To Make Flying A Piece Of Cake
Flying is not always easy especially when you're stuck on a 10-15 hour international flight . I have had my share of long-haul flights and have enough experience travelling internationally where you have to deal with lay-overs, delays and worse, flight cancellations. I have had to spend a night in an airport, sleep on airport lounges and wait for hours to get to my flight.
Yes, this may not sound appealing and exciting to most people and it probably is true. But I love to travel. It is one of my passions in life so I make the most of every situation. Even in situations like delayed flights and long hours of lay-over. I just recently went on a much needed holiday/trip with my mom and grandma to Los Angeles, California and travel time was 4 hours from Chicago O'hare International Airport to LAX. It was the first time I travelled through plane since the pandemic and a lot of things have definitely changed. I must say thaat it felt good to travel and be out there again but at the same time, it was also stressful and draining. Lines, security checks, mask protocols, baggage check-ins...all this and everything in between can be nerve racking especially if you are not ready and equipped for you travel.
Through lots of trial and error, I have come up with top tips to survive a long-haul flight with ease and make your travelling experience so much better!
1. Control your situation! If you're prepared, you can be in control of your enjoyment on your flight. Bringing a blanket scarf, a pair of socks or some form of layers like a pullover... can make it so that you are not at the mercy of the temperature on your plane. You can also bring your own snacks so you are not stuck with whatever they offer you on the plane. Bring noise cancellation headphones just in case you are seated to a crying baby or someone who just won't stop talking. Believe me, we've all been there.
2. Hydrate! I am fully aware of how sipping your favorite soda or beverage may seem like a good idea but be ready for the consequences. They make you bloated, uncomfortable and maybe even a little sick while cruising on high altitude. Water is still the best way to hydrate. I always carry with m e a water bottle that I can just refill when i get through security. Make your water bottle your best friend on your long-haul flight.
3. It's all bout your attitude! If you get on your flight with total dread, your flight will be just as bad as you thought it would be. In contrast, if you look forward to your flight, it will be just as great as you planned. That is, considering of course, the fact that you have come prepared and ready to experience an easy and comfortable travel. The key is to focus on the positive.
4. Get comfy! This is extremely important. Your comfort is the number one key to your happiness on any flight. What I do is bring my own neck pillow, blanket scarf to keep me cozy, a pair of socks and whatever makes my flight comfortable! All of these things combined will keep me snug as a bug in a rug!
5. Pick your seats ahead of time if you can! Having a good seat makes all of the difference. For a long international flight, I like being in the aisle seat because I don't want to bother people whenever I want to bother people when I want to use the lieu. I don't like to be excusing myself every time I need to go out and stretch.
6. Entertain yourself! Read a book you've been putting off for a while now. You have fewer distractions while on a long-haul flight. Use the luxury of time to read a book you've been meaning to read. Or you can catch up on all the movies you missed in the theaters. Most long-haul flights now have a huge selection of the latest movies and entertainment. Take full advantage and make every minute of your flight matter!
Enjoy your travel experience and make memories that will last a lifetime! Don't let a tiny bump in the road ruin the rest of your adventure.
XOXO,
Karen
