Karen In Chicago-Experiencing The Windy City

Ahhh, Chicago. You are amazing! The first time I visited this city was in June of 2016. Like other cities that gave a a mark on my heart, Chicago easily became one of my favorite cities.

One of the greatest things about Chicago is the fact that it combines that big city/urban feel with the Midwestern charm. It's like living in a small town but in a big city at the same time!

Chicago is world famous for it's unique and amazing architectural styles. In fact, Chicago is home to some of the first ever modern skyscrapers!

You might visit this city for the museums and it's art. You might visit this city to watch a concert at the Millennium Park. Or you might visit to see three states at once from the Willi's Tower or John Hanckock Building. Or you might visit for the culinary whiplash of Michellin starred restaurants like Alinea and and hot dog stands where the stars are poppy seeds and relish. But there are more reasons to love Chicago than these.

The Food

Chicago is famous for their hotdogs and Chicagoans never put ketchup on them but instead they put mustard. Chicago style hotdog is a steamed all beef hotdog topped with yellow mustard, bright green relish, tomato wedges, sport peppers and a dash of celery salt served in the all important steamed poppy seed bun. They are never to be topped with ketchup. This rule is almost religion to this city. Chicago is also a home to some of the most famous restaurants and celebrity chefs like Rick Bayless. The exploding foodie culture in this city one of the reasons why people come over to visit.

The Seasons

Chicago maybe brutal in the winter, the summer spring and fall make up for it. As it warms up, it's amazing how fast the mood of the city changes. But whatever the season is, Chicago has a lot to offer every tourist that comes to visit.

The shopping

I always find myself doing a bit of shopping when I'm travelling. Ehem! ehem! And Chicago's State Street is one where you can find some of my favorite shops and high ends stores and shops. The Magnificent Mile is a history-packed downtown strip on Michigan avenue that leads you from department stores to magnificent megamalls to luxury boutiques to brand-name retail chains- all in a row!

Quick fun fact that I just learned: Chicago is know as the 'Windy City" because of their politicians and not because of the city. Hmmm! I wonder why? Although I personally think it is really windy in this city!
